Master / Slaving Flurry Washes Without Controller

Postby sparbz » Fri Mar 23, 2012 8:38 am

Hi there,

Recently I've just purchased two Blizzard Flurry Washes. I'm looking to Master / Slave the two together but I do not have a DMX controller (yet). Rather it'd be nice if I could set one to sound-response mode and the other to slave the first's sound-response mode, so they moved together. Is this possible? I've seemed to have tried everything to get this to work but when I set one of the lights to slave, it seems to just not do anything.

Best,
Saul

When you set them as master slave, you still need a DMX cable between them. So I am just going to start by verifying that you have a dmx cable from the fixture's DMX out on the fixture set to master connected to the DMX in on the fixture set to slave.

Yeah, of course I do. I thought that was obvious, but I guess I should have verified that and that some people on there might actually miss it.

To go along with that, I've tried both fixtures on Master (wired appropriately), nothing will work.

Sure, well, I own two of the Flurry Washes and I'm trying to link them together so that they're synchronized by sound activation mode. The two are linked together, the Master having the DMX cable (supplied by Blizzard) sending the output and the slave receiving the input. The fixture in slave just does nothing as it seems it's not receiving any signal. This happens for both fixtures, even if I reverse the way they're set up (make the other the master). Just trying to get these to synchronize like every other fixture I own.

Hi sparbz. First of all, let's confirm that your units are in the proper modes. When you put the Flurry in Slave mode, you must push enter and the display should read .son, this confirms that you are indeed in slave mode. Master has 3 modes of which you can chose one. Master Fast, Master Slow and Master Sound. You also must push enter and see a confirming readout. Master Fast will read fast, Master Slow will read Slou, and Master Sound will read Srun. (Note:I always recommend that the units be put in slave mode while operating with DMX to prevent a master signal from interfering with the DMX signal.)

After you have the units reading the proper display, hook up the DMX data cable using the Male XLX end of the cable into the Master fixture, and the Female XLX end into the Slave fixture. If you've done all this and still get nothing, try swapping out the cable for a known working cable or test the cable with a cable tester. A cable tester is a real good idea, and anyone with any sort of a rig ought to own one.

If you still have problems, give me a call at 414 395 8364 and we'll see if we can work it out over the phone.

I believe I've tried all of this, but I will try again later this evening and post the results tomorrow. Thanks.
